Unicode Hindi Typing Practice

Mangal Typing Test

Practice Hindi typing in Unicode with timed passages and live Gross WPM, Net WPM, accuracy, errors and backspace tracking. Use your configured Hindi keyboard or IME; the timer starts with your first committed character.

Mangal is a Unicode Hindi font. This typing test does not remap physical English keyboard keys into Hindi.

Hindi Input Method

Type Unicode Hindi using the keyboard or IME configured on your device. If you use Remington GAIL or Inscript through your operating system, the committed Unicode Hindi text can be practiced here.

This page does not convert ordinary English key presses into Hindi characters.

Typing practice runs locally in your browser. The text you type is not uploaded or stored by the typing tool.

Gross WPM measures all normalized Unicode characters currently counted in the timed session. Net WPM uses correctly aligned characters. Five normalized Unicode characters count as one standard word for this custom practice score.

Accuracy compares your committed Unicode Hindi text with the normalized Unicode reference passage.

How to Use the Mangal Typing Test

This typing test is designed for Unicode Hindi practice using the Mangal font or another compatible Devanagari font available on your device via Unicode KrutiDev. Choose a duration, difficulty and passage, then type the displayed Hindi text using your configured Hindi keyboard or input method.

Choose Your Practice Settings

Select a practice duration from 1 to 30 minutes, choose Easy, Medium or Hard, and select a Hindi passage. Difficulty describes the practice text only; it is not an official examination level.

Configure Hindi Input on Your Device

Before typing, make sure your operating system or input method is producing Unicode Hindi. The page accepts committed Unicode text but does not convert ordinary English keyboard keys into Hindi.

Start Typing the Passage

There is no separate Start button. The timer begins when the first committed character is entered. If an IME is composing a Hindi character, the unfinished composition is not scored until it is committed.

Continue Until Time Ends

Longer sessions automatically continue with another passage from the same difficulty when a segment is completed. The same timer and cumulative speed, accuracy and backspace results continue across the full session.

How Unicode Hindi Typing Works

Unicode stores Hindi as standard Devanagari characters that can be used across modern websites, documents and applications. Mangal is a font that can display this Unicode Hindi text; it is not a separate text encoding.

This tool compares the Unicode Hindi you enter with the Unicode reference passage after NFC normalization. Scoring uses normalized Unicode code points so the calculation is deterministic and does not depend on JavaScript UTF-16 code-unit length.

If you use a Hindi input method that builds characters through IME composition, scoring waits for the committed text instead of treating unfinished composition as final input.

How WPM, Net WPM and Accuracy Are Calculated

For this custom practice tool, five normalized Unicode characters count as one standard word for speed calculations.

MetricCalculationMeaning
Gross WPMTyped Unicode characters ÷ 5 ÷ elapsed minutesOverall typing speed before accounting for current errors
Net WPMCorrectly aligned Unicode characters ÷ 5 ÷ elapsed minutesTyping speed based on correctly aligned text
AccuracyCorrectly aligned Unicode characters ÷ total typed Unicode characters × 100Percentage of current typed text aligned correctly with the reference
ErrorsEdit differences between typed and expected Unicode sequencesCurrent insertions, deletions or substitutions
BackspacesActual Backspace key presses during the active sessionHow often Backspace was used while editing

Accuracy uses sequence alignment rather than a simple fixed-position comparison. A single inserted or missing character therefore does not automatically mark every following character as incorrect.

Using Remington GAIL or Inscript with This Typing Test

Remington GAIL and Inscript are keyboard or input-layout methods, while Mangal is a Unicode Devanagari font. This page does not contain its own Remington or Inscript keyboard mapper.

If your operating system or Hindi input software is configured to produce Unicode Hindi using Remington GAIL, Inscript or another Unicode input method, the committed Hindi text can be practiced and scored here.

If ordinary English letters appear when you press physical keyboard keys, configure the required Hindi keyboard or IME on your device before starting the test. For typewriter layouts, you can review key positions on the Kruti Dev 010 keyboard.

How to Improve Hindi Typing Speed and Accuracy

Improvement is easier to measure when speed and accuracy are practiced together. Increasing Gross WPM while accuracy falls sharply usually creates more corrections and a lower Net WPM.

  • begin with Easy passages while learning your chosen Hindi keyboard layout;
  • focus on accurate vowel signs, halant forms and common conjuncts;
  • keep a steady rhythm instead of rushing short groups of words;
  • use Net WPM and accuracy together when comparing practice sessions;
  • review repeated errors and practice those character combinations separately;
  • use short sessions for focused accuracy work and longer sessions for consistency;
  • move to Medium and Hard passages when simpler text becomes comfortable.

There is no universal WPM target on this page. The useful goal is consistent improvement under the same practice conditions, especially when handling special symbols that would otherwise require Hindi Alt codes in legacy software.

Mangal and KrutiDev: What Is the Difference?

Mangal and KrutiDev are often discussed together in Hindi typing, but they work differently. Mangal displays standard Unicode Devanagari text, while KrutiDev uses a legacy font-based character mapping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Mangal typing test free?

Yes. You can use the Unicode Hindi typing practice tool in your browser without creating an account or paying for a practice session.

Is Mangal a Hindi keyboard layout?

No. Mangal is a Unicode Devanagari font. The keyboard or IME on your device produces the Unicode Hindi text that Mangal or another compatible font displays.

Can I use Remington GAIL with this typing test?

Yes, if your operating system or Hindi input software is configured to produce Unicode Hindi using Remington GAIL. The website itself does not remap English keys into the Remington layout.

Can I use Inscript Hindi typing?

Yes. Unicode Hindi produced by an Inscript keyboard or another compatible Unicode input method can be typed into the practice area.

When does the typing timer start?

The timer starts after the first committed typing character is entered. Focusing the typing area or beginning an unfinished IME composition does not start the timed session.

How is Net WPM calculated?

Net WPM uses correctly aligned normalized Unicode characters. Five characters count as one standard word for this custom practice calculation.

Is this an official government exam typing simulator?

No. This page provides custom Unicode Hindi typing practice with transparent timing and scoring rules. It does not claim to reproduce the official rules of any specific recruitment examination.

Does the Mangal typing test upload or save what I type?

No. Typing practice runs locally in your browser, and the text you type is not uploaded or stored by the typing tool.
